English Program

English Class 1 - Some students in our English...Several times a year our church invests in the lives of some of the foreign exchange students who come to our city from all over the world to study at the University of Texas in Arlington.  The students are in a new place, far from home, and could use American friends.

In our program we get to share a little of our lives with them, show them what real American life is like, and be an example of Christ to these students.

There is no pressure.  There are no surprise Bible studies or anything that might be scary to an outsider coming to a church in a strange country for the first time.  What there is in place of all of that is food, a little bit of teaching on how English is actually spoken by real Americans, and a chance to talk and build relationships in a relaxed environment.

English class 3 - sharing food togetherEventually, some of these students want to know why these Americans are taking time out of their lives to meet them, why they are feeding them for free every week, and why we care about them.  The answer is easy.  We love, cause God first loved us, and we have a beautiful picture of that in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

It is that simple.  No accosting people on the street.  No two hour sermons with high pressure altar calls.  Just evangelism done naturally, and easily: just loving people until they ask why, and the answer is Jesus.

You might be asking "How can I be a part of something so easy and worth while?"  Or maybe this answers the difficulty of wanting to be a missionary without having to move to a far corner of the earth.  Imagine that!  Being a missionary where the world comes to you!

If you'd like to be a part of this, or maybe you are just curious, we'd love you to come check out the program just once.  If you think it is right for you, then when the next session starts, you can commit to an hour and a half, one night a week for six weeks.  It isn't a lot to change an eternity, but students have come to Christ, been baptized in our church, and started life anew.  Eventually, they go back to their home countries where they become missionaries of a sort, themselves.
